Location: Jacksonville, FL. Posts: 765. I replaced my front speakers with a set of Infinity Reference 6.5" Component speakers and maxed out the RMS wattage to them with an amp. I know this isn't the answer you're looking for, but the sound from the front of the car is so good now I don't need rearspeakers.
Now take 2 but end connectors and place one on each lead, notice the wires coming into the plug the first wire should be a brownish color, then a black wire, these are ground for the tweeter, and speaker, then the 3rd. wire should be red, and then the 4th wire should be white, these are positive.
7inch is the correct size.

My personal preference with hardtops is to use a dual voice coil 4x10 (or 6x9 in 67-8) in the front, and a 6x9 dual voice coil in the rear under a repro factory rearspeaker grille, painted to match the package tray. Connect both left channels to the front speaker, and both right channels to the rear. Great sound.
Ensure a sealed fit with mounting brackets, adapters and spacers. New holes may need to be drilled into the mounting location. Take care to avoid any other accessory wiring. 6. Install and test any subwoofers. Subwoofers are responsible for the ultra-low, "booming" bass sound that some car owners idolize.
